Joy For No Reason
“Meet this moment.
Let it be.
Mystery unfolding
endlessly.”
- from “Let It Be,” Joy For No Reason
In early 2024, during a monthlong silent meditation retreat, songs began coming through me. I had never written songs before. I had never considered myself a singer. I had been convinced for most of my life that I couldn't sing.
And yet, in the deep silence of retreat, melodies and lyrics arrived spontaneously, fully formed, asking only to be received and given voice. I was in awe of the Mystery unfolding and the pointing out and guidance the songs provided to deepen my practice.
When I emerged, I collaborated with my friend and music producer Jared Lucas (RELATA) to record them. The album Modern Mantras was released in August 2024 under my artist name Joy For No Reason, which also emerged in the silence alongside the songs. Since then, the songs have continued to flow - over a dozen so far, emerging across two monthlong retreats - and I'm actively working on my second album.
The songs are soulful, melodic, chant-like, and rooted in dharma — invitations into presence, wholeness, and aliveness. They carry the truths I've come to trust: we are innately whole, interconnected, and have what it takes to meet ourselves, each other, and the world with curiosity and compassion.
The music feels part of the same transmission as my teaching and coaching. Another doorway into the same remembering.
Listening
The songs are offered as an invitation to practice and open to the beauty and goodness already here. To accompany meditation, walking, movement practice, contemplation, or integration after retreat.
